Radical Firearms FR-16 5.56mm NATO Modern Sporting Rifle

The Radical Firearms FR-16 is designed for shooters who demand reliability, precision, and versatility in a modern sporting rifle. Chambered in 5.56mm NATO, this semi-automatic rifle combines a rugged SOCOM barrel profile with a free-float M-LOK handguard to deliver consistent accuracy, reduced recoil, and effortless customization options. Whether you’re a competitive shooter, a tactical enthusiast, or a responsible citizen seeking a dependable home-defense platform, the FR-16 stands ready to exceed expectations.

Premium Barrel Construction

At the heart of the FR-16 is a 16-inch SOCOM-profile barrel crafted from 4140 chrome moly vanadium steel. This barrel material offers the perfect balance of strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance. The Melonite® (QPQ) finish further enhances surface protection, ensuring long-term wear resistance and low friction. Threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle, the barrel accepts a wide range of muzzle devices, including the standard A2 flash hider or popular compensators and suppressors. The M4 feed ramps guarantee reliable cartridge feeding and extraction, even under rapid-fire conditions.

Optimized Gas System and Functionality

Equipped with a mid-length gas system and a .750 low-profile gas block, the FR-16 delivers smoother recoil impulse and improved cycling over carbine-length systems. The mid-length configuration reduces gas-related wear and softens felt recoil, translating to faster follow-up shots and greater shooter comfort. The MIL-STD forward assist and dust cover protect internal components from debris, while the MIL-STD charging handle ensures positive, reliable operation under adverse conditions.

Modular Free-Float Handguard

The 15-inch Radical Precision Rail (RPR) free-float handguard features M-LOK™ slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock for attaching lights, lasers, bipods, grips, and other mission-critical accessories. Its slim, lightweight profile promotes natural pointability and minimizes added weight. The continuous top Picatinny rail provides ample real estate for optics, sights, night-vision devices, or backup iron sights. The free-float design isolates the barrel from external pressures, preserving point-of-impact consistency across varying environmental and handling conditions.

Forged 7075-T6 Upper and Lower Receivers

Radical Firearms employs forged 7075-T6 aluminum for both upper and lower receivers, a material renowned for its high strength-to-weight ratio. Each receiver is Mil-Spec machined and Type III hardcoat anodized for a sleek black finish and maximum corrosion resistance. The precision machining process ensures perfect fitment, tight tolerances, and rock-solid lockup between the barrel extension and bolt carrier group, resulting in enhanced accuracy and reliability shot after shot.

Ergonomic Controls and Furniture

The FR-16 includes a B5 Systems Bravo Carbine Stock, offering six adjustable positions for length-of-pull customization. The Carbine buffer tube and standard mil-spec castle nut/brake system ensure compatibility with aftermarket stocks. A B5 Systems Type 23 pistol grip provides a comfortable, non-slip surface and an integrated storage compartment for spare batteries or small tools. Ambidextrous controls accommodate both right- and left-handed shooters, and the standard semi-automatic fire control group delivers a smooth, crisp trigger pull optimized for rapid-fire response.

High-Capacity 30+1 Magazine and Ballistic Performance

Chambered for the ubiquitous 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge and paired with a 30-round magazine, the FR-16 affords ample firepower for training, competition, or defense. The 1:7 twist rate stabilizes a wide range of bullet weights, from lightweight varmint loads to heavy barrier-penetrating projectiles. Shooters can expect consistent velocity, tight groupings, and reliable feeding, whether firing standard M193 ball ammo or premium 77-grain match rounds.

Durable Finish and Corrosion Protection

The entire rifle is protected with a Black Type III hardcoat anodized finish, providing exceptional scratch resistance and corrosion protection. From the barrel and rail system to the receivers and small parts, Radical Firearms ensures every component endures the rigors of frequent field use, extreme weather, and demanding training exercises. The finish also imparts a subtle, non-reflective matte appearance ideal for tactical and hunting applications.

Applications and Versatility

The Radical Firearms FR-16 excels in a broad spectrum of roles. On the competition line, its free-float handguard and accurate barrel deliver fast splits and tight groupings. For home defense, the 16-inch barrel balances maneuverability and ballistic performance within interior spaces. In hunting scenarios, the reliable gas system and precision build ensure ethical shot placement on medium-sized game. Law enforcement and military trainers appreciate its rugged construction, cost-efficient ammunition compatibility, and modularity for mission-specific setups.
